I recently came across this company called Equiloo (www.equiloo.co.uk/ @equiloouk on instagram) who seem to be promoting the idea that we should be using H2O instead of toiler paper in the bathroom.

I understand the sentiment: the less toilet roll we use the more trees we will save. But surely we would be using more water in the process, and water is also a resource that we shouldn't be overusing.

This is also makes you think about whether our bathroom habits are actually eco-friendly/ sustainable, and in some ways dated. Using toilet paper goes back decades in our history and it is surprising that we are still so reliant on this method of cleaning.

Water has proven to be a universal solvent which is why we use it to clean every other part of our body, why we use it in baths & showers so it is surprising that we don't use it after using the toilet. I have heard that there are parts of the world that have adopted change and are using bidets and other water based methods in the bathroom so maybe it's just us Americans and Europeans that are behind the curve.

I think if you truly care about the environment and the impact our actions are having on life for future generations then we need to find ways to use less paper based products. The question is how?

Food for thought.
